Beach Sloth Answers The Questionnaire!

What is your beverage of choice?

A lot of people have witnessed my love of lemonade, the many (almost comical) number of bottles I have of it in the fridge at any given moment. One time a friend came over and asked why I needed six bottles of it in my fridge. It reminds me of the summer.

Tell us a little bit about your work in REALITY BEACH.

These are part of my greater “Anxiety Poetry” series that I sometimes talk about with my friends. Basically I make sure to write at least one poem a day on my phone. Later I bring them home and go through them maybe once a month or once every two months. Out of the roughly sixty I have written, I pick out a few I actually feel happy with and start to build that into a greater whole.

Some of these poems are silly. A few are based on my actual experiences with people. I try to pay attention to whatever is happening around me and if it is sweet enough I’ll write about it. “11.02.15” was based on seeing this gigantic guy come onto the train with a lollipop and I loved how happy he was.

Another one is based off of the endless clicking that has sort of rewired our minds, how we find things related to other things in ways that may not make the most logical sense (like a Wikipedia K-Hole scenario) – “11.23.15”.

For the last one in the series it was based off of a good memory I had of going down to the New Jersey shore with someone I really care about.

What is your typical writing process?

I try to write several times a day. I write when I wake up for about an hour before work. I write during my lunchbreak. I write in between going to and from places. Really any time I can find I try to write. I do editing at home and after work so I do not get interrupted. Usually I delete most of what I write.

If you had a talk show, what would the name be?

America’s Most Mundane Videos

Do you have any home remedies for loneliness?

When I am lonely I usually try to make an effort to go to more readings near me. I also exercise a lot and try to be as productive as possible.

What have you conquered recently?

This is the closest I have been at becoming a fully functional human being. I feel this is probably the best version of me I have stumbled upon. So I guess I conquered a few years of bad luck (constant moves, unstable work situations, etc.).

Where can we buy more of your work (if applicable)?

My books are:

It Doesn’t Matter What You Look Like On The Outside It’s What’s On the Internet That Counts

Beach Sloth’s Collected Thoughts

Eric Baker: In his own words

– All of which are available on Amazon

Some of my work is also available through Boost House’s THE YOLO PAGES and Civil Coping Mechanisms’ 40 Likely to Die Before 40

I also sell some of my remaining chapbook copies of I Want to YouTube Down the Rivers of America

What motivates you?

I am motivated to write because what else would I do?

Any upcoming projects?

I recently had a very smart and capable person totally redesign my website and now it looks really good.

I plan on possibly putting together another collection of poetry (purely digital however) by the end of this year.

If Earth is a mother, and Time is a father, then what is Art?

Art is a rebellious child.

I love you Reality Beach!
